news Harry’s 65th Birthday! February 6th was Harry’s 65th birthday so we celebrated with lunch and a wonderful cake. Farewell to Martin Martin started with the practice on 22nd August 1977 straight from school, undertaking studies leading to his membership of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. recently Martin has been promoted to Head of Special Projects for the practice, overseeing various projects. Over the years Martin proved to be an inspiration to younger members of the practice and to many work experience pupils from local Upper Schools, guiding them through a two week period to design their “Dream House”. He also cajoled colleagues to design and build floats for the Biggleswade Carnival winning top prize one year. He was also manager of local football teams, including Potton Utd whom the practice sponsored. For some time he has presented the Saturday sports program on Biggles FM.  Stotfold Town Football Club Redevelopment We are delighted to have submitted a planning application for the relocation of Stotfold Town Football Club and the development of 62 dwellings on their former ground on behalf of Stotfold Town Council. This follows many years of negotiations between Stotfold Town Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and Stotfold Football Club. As well as Architects, we were also appointed as Selling Agents; and a client of many years submitted a unique offer for the site which we were pleased to recommend to our clients. “Commitment to local students work experience”. We have been recognised by DevelopBP for our commitment to hosting local students. We will continue to work with them to provide local students with beneficial work experience. Our structured programme allows students to design their dream house, as well as giving them an insight into a career in architecture. Over 80 years in business is a really good excuse to let your hair down! The photograph shows our team celebrating at The George, Buckden. A wonderful time was had by all and we promise to update photo should we celebrate our 100th anniversary although one or two of us may have retired by then.   Association for Project Safety We are delighted to have qualified as a registered APS Practice confirming our commitment to Health & Safety in our designs and our suitability to undertake the Principal Designers Role under the CDM Regulations 2015 having provided CDMC services for many years. Made in Britain Campaign As part of our Environmental Policy accredited to BSEN14001 we have been accepted as an Associate Member of the Made in Britain Campaign, promoting the use of UK Manufactured goods, which is good for the environment and employment. This is a new form of membership created following a letter from our MD Harry Hughes to Made in Britain CEO John Peerce who felt it was a great idea and put the suggestion on their agenda for their next meeting.   Building Excellence Awards 2015 Having redesigned the interiors, prepared a room-by-room spec, and managed the contract on-site; we were delighted when the High Road, Shillington scheme won the Best Small Housing Development at the Building Excellence Awards 2015 Central LABC. It now proceeds to the LABC National Awards in November: http://www.labc.co.uk/awards/category/best-small-new-housing-development.
